It is a common marine reef fish and mostly black and white with an elongated dorsal fin. The sloping black stripes on the white body give the fish a leaning forward appearance, but the main physical feature is the long, banner-like dorsal fin. The fish's caudal, anal and pectoral fins are most commonly bright yellow. It grows to a length of 25 cm. The fish live in pairs and also in shoals and peaceful with other marine fishes in a community aquarium. The ideal water parameters are temperature 24-26 °C and pH 8.2-8.4. They are omnivore and feeds on varied diets of live foods, fresh meat and sea-foods (shellfish), or suitably formulated flake foods. There is no report on spawning of this fish..
